Yi Feng is from Nantong in China, and was apprenticed to a master goldsmith. After travelling, he then studied at the School of Jewellery, Birmingham City University, where he earned a BA (Hons), and discovered Mokume Gane.
Through experimentation he developed his own approach to the process and mastered the technical difficulties of fusing various metals. Producing Mokume Gane is a highly skilled and technical process; Yi’s focus is on creating harmony between the form of the
finished piece and its pattern.
Yi Feng’s creative abilities in Mokume-Gane and other demanding precious metalworking techniques were rewarded with the 2017 Goldsmiths’ Craftsmanship & Design Award and the 2016 H.S.Walsh Prize for Jewellery and Silversmithing. A diligent craftsman with excellent attention to detail in each bespoke item.
