Ruth’s graduate collection ‘Train Stations’ aims to emphasise fine details that we subconsciously pass by on our everyday commutes. She aims to extract unique aspects of industrialised landscapes associated with railway culture that capture her interest and stand out from their standardised surroundings.
Ruth often responds to minimalist and brutalist architectural forms in her collections of contemporary homewares through a variety of silversmithing methods including etching, casting and patination. She also reflects this through her material choices: Silver, cast iron and base metals.
‘As humans are drawn to the tactile and the bold. Our awareness of an object through touch and sight is uniquely human’. Ruth evaluates and translates her thought processes through these two most used senses. This enables her to communicate her own perceptions of a subject to others.
