My designs focus on tactile surfaces and the emotions and sensations they can evoke when my silverware is being used and handled. I like to make functional objects that can be used everyday or for occasions. I design simplistic forms that have been thoughtfully considered in relation to the user; with the use of various techniques I create a textural element to please the fingers.
I have recently graduated from The University of Edinburgh with a BA in Jewellery and Silversmithing. For my graduate collection I have been inspired by braille and how with touch we understand and confirm what we see. This collection focuses on the translation of non-verbal languages transforming them into tactile surfaces on drinking vessels. Through handling these vessels the user can examine their facility to touch, and their understanding of accessibility and language.
I am continuing to develop my tactile vessels and focusing on developing my hand engraving techniques in Edinburgh.
