My initial training started in Sheffield in 2001, where I found my absolute passion for hammer work. The process of raising metal was awe-inspiring, and I found I had a real ability to move metal. Studying at MA level gave me opportunity to push my abilities further, testing boundaries of process and technique. Equally it gave me opportunity to study my own objects – to understanding the importance of sculptural art – how pieces look and feel, gauging the quality of that beautiful and perfect curve.
The more I learn over the years about the traditions of smithing – what can be created, and for what purpose; the more I feel motivated to uphold these traditions through creating contemporary objects. I strongly believe in the importance of aiming to achieve a high level of craftsmanship through the dedication of good hammer work.
