Fit For Purpose jug. Raised Britannia silver jug made for the Fit For Purpose exhibition at the V&A. The jug has a removable rosewood handle that is attached with only a cork.
Hand raised sterling silver. The ridges are then hammered in use metal hammers and a variety of metal or wooden stakes.
These pieces were a commission for Clare College, Cambridge through Payne and Son of Oxford. They required a water jug to hold 1.4 litres of water for their Feast ceremonies, where they would be used to hold rose water. The jug measures 35cm tall and the bowl 41cm in diameter. The jug is hand raised with a hand forged handle and all decoration is produced through hammering.
Phil Jordan
Phil is a contemporary designer silversmith who is inspired by fluidity in nature and contemporary architecture.
One style of work that he has used to create a contrast between these two inspirations is the use of a myriad of hammering techniques on sheet silver. Another style that he has used in exploring these inspirations is fabrication of sheet silverware.
