Abigail Brown

Abigail specialises in traditional hammer forming techniques such as raising, sinking and chasing to create beautiful one-off art objects and functional silverware.  Her current works connect through a process of observation and intuitive making.  She is involved and inspired by her environment and experiences and works instinctively to create beautiful objects and images.  The work is a direct result of her deeply rooted relationship with the land and is a celebration of minimalism, form, materials and elemental creativity.

Abigail has been producing contemporary designs in silverware since 2001 and has exhibited internationally at venues including the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Saatchi Gallery, Goldsmiths’ Hall and the German Goldsmiths’ House in Hanau.  Her silverware has been included in events such as ‘Collect’ by the Crafts Council; the ‘Silber Triennale 2010’ the ‘Silber Triennale 2013’; ‘Talente’ held in Munich; and in 2015 she was awarded the Bayerischer Staatspreis (Bavarian States Prize) for her vessel ‘Isis’.  Abigail’s silverware is widely collected and is included in the public collection of Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales in Cardiff.  In 2014 Abigail became a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths’ and in 2015 she received the Freedom of the City of London.

Abigail works to commission and produces primarily one off pieces for exhibition and collections.  Please contact her for further information, to discuss a commission or to arrange a studio visit.
