Building a Professional Brand
Silversmith Clive Burr was elected Chair of Contemporary British Silversmiths in 2011 and began his tenure by bringing on staff that included Tamizan Savill, CBS’ first professional administrator and Karin Paynter to lead on setting and delivering the associations’ objectives.
Working with Karin, he focused on cultivating relationships and producing high profile exhibitions in collaboration with the V&A, Downing Street and Christie’s to bring members’ work to the public.
A passionate advocate of skills-based mentoring and a prolific mentor himself, Clive negotiated a specialist support package with leading silver supplier Argex to give all members access to discounted silver to enable them to be able to work in the material which kick started a long term relationship that has lasted over a decade in support of the trade.
“Skills based mentoring is fundamental to the future of our industry and I’m proud to have played a part in providing this for both new craftspeople but also existing makers throughout their careers."
