SIDE x SIDE : EDGE > EDGE

SIDE x SIDE – EDGE > EDGE is a collection of silverware by Contemporary British Silversmiths and the first exciting collaboration with the Finnish Silversmiths Association (http://www NULL.finlandssilversmeder NULL.fi/) and students and staff at the Lahti University of Applied Sciences Institute of Design (http://www NULL.lamk NULL.fi/english/design/), the exhibition features 75 pieces of new work designed and made in response to the themed title.

Finnish manufacturer Kultakeskus Oy (http://www NULL.kultakeskus NULL.fi/) generously sponsored each participating maker with 1kg of silver encouraging members to challenge their creative thinking. In keeping with the organisation’s educational remit Graduate members of Contemporary British Silversmiths will be participating with Full members.

The exhibition was launched, alongside the Silver Trust’s stunning 10 Downing Street collection (http://www NULL.silvertrust NULL.co NULL.uk/col_htm/index NULL.html), at Häme Castle (http://www NULL.nba NULL.fi/en/hame_castle) in Hämeenlinna in 4 August 2009. Finland’s oldest castle provided a wonderful contrasting space in which to show contemporary silverware. The first UK venue for the exhibition will be the Royal Cornwall Museum (http://www NULL.royalcornwallmuseum NULL.org NULL.uk/), Truro in September 2010
