Working from her studio in Sheffield, Colette enjoys playing with the notion of preciousness by re-contextualising everyday objects, artefacts and questioning people’s perceptions of value. She achieves this by changing the aesthetic qualities through distorting silhouette, as well as making the silver appear vulnerable and fragile but still maintaining a functional element.
The inspiration for Colette’s new collection came from the archives at the V&A Museum in London. Drawn to the illustrations in the manufacturing log books rather than actual objects, She produced her own abstract drawings, which she is able to transfer to silver by using traditional hammering techniques; hand rising, forging, chasing & repoussè.
